9.11

feiinally, hols. not that i do anything besides wasting time at home, but still..

I love the fact that September is here and there is just crazy proliferation of 9/11 documentaries. everyday, one channel or another is airing something related to it, and this year is somewhat more important compared to previous years considering its the 5-year landmark. just one of those figures.

They were showing 'Path to 9/11' where there was re-enactment of the things leading up to 9/11, all the way from 1993 with the incident of the explosives in the van which upon detonation was meant to bring down a building, initiated by Ramzi Youssef. sorry, that's not even remotely close to being articulate. Most of the situations portrayed were fictionized, but i think they were pretty close to the truth since they compiled the information from every kind of resource you could imagine. More interesting was the one that dealt with the conspiracy of the incident, claiming US was largely to blame for it all, or atleast partially.

a) There was a line in 'Path to 9/11 where upon the take-off of one of the hijacked planes, the narrator says something like 'The US military failure was now complete.' The series of mistakes that occurred on that day and the fact that they could have been easily avoided are just so confusing in every sense of the word. Consider this, 16 out of 19 of the hijackers did not even have complete documentation to enter the US and yet they were still allowed do so. 2 of them were on the watch list of the CIA for quite some time, but the CIA's refusal to share information with other intelligence until the very last minute meant that the 2 suspected hijackers got away with airport security as they were not familiar with them. CIA did disclose the name and picture of the 2 suspects to the FBI prior to 9/11, but the weird part is, they failed to recognize them and were allowed to board the American 77.

Or so i say. I'm not well-informed due to laziness and poor comprehension of simple politics.

b) Lastly, favourite, they were showing a movie related to the incident. Set in Afghanistan, if I'm not mistaken. The children who acted in it were so gorgeous and beautiful that it couldn't have been any other country. I only watched one scene where the teacher was trying to explain the impact of 9/11 without much success because the children were innocently oblivious to the whole situation.

Teacher: Do you know who destroyed the buildings?
Baby: God destroyed them
Baby2: (chuckles and playfully slaps said baby) God only destroys people. People destroy buildings.

Aw, baby. So endearing and heartbreaking that.
