prelude to winter '08.
Nothing much, except that its been exceptionally cold, and the days are getting shorter.
In a country such as Ireland, its hard to imagine there'd be a situation where you'd find yourself not having access to clean water to drink at home. But this was the case since last month or so where it was reported that tap water in the area was discovered to contain high levels of lead and and thus unsafe to be consumed. Luck would have it that I found out about this right after taking in an entire mug of said lead-laden water. I'm not sure about the effects of lead consumption, and its times like these I choose to place blind & absolute faith in the Human Immune System.
Apparently the situation with it now is that the water is safe to drink again. I hope this is the case, I have prematurely downed an entire mug of it as of 4 minutes ago.
Genetics lecturer has this to say (not verbatim):
"When my dad's sperm hit my mother's egg..his gene was homozygous recessive for blonde, so because it was homozygous, [the traits] couldn't be masked. My mother was also recessive blonde, and so I am homozygous recessive for blonde. And as a child, I was Absolutely Gorgeous..."
Funny. And yes, its Mendelian genetics all over again.

And hmm..dun bother about the water the Galwayians have been drinking for ages and none of any died of lead poisoning. Yet. =)

the day my education proves fruitful is the day i use 'homozygous' in a sentence and not have anyone question me.
